Turi, Estonia

Welcome to Türi- the spring capital of Estonia!

Hi Kalamata Youth Center blog’s readers – that post is going be about TÜRI, a city in Europe, a city in Baltic, a city in Estonia - in a middle of it!

The city was established (getting the rights to be a city) in 1926. And since that on it have grown from 2500 inhabitants to 5896 (August 2012). To be honest the population of Türi city is  constantly decreasing and probably continues because of the aging of the population and emigration (for example on January 2008 there was 6333 inhabitants in city Türi).

But still this nice green city have many things and traditions to be proud of. For example honorary title “Spring capital” what was given to the city  officially in a year 2000 by prime minister of Estonia. It all started thanks to active citizens of Türi, who wanted to make city noticable, special and memorable. Partly also cause Türi is really a garden city, there is lot of nature and most of the city consists houses with great gardens.

The one of the main events taking place every year in Spring time is festival Flower Fair (Lillelaat) what gathers itself plenty of cultural events and exhibitions and mainly market for huge variety of different plants and other goods.

One example of green gardens in Türi:

In Türi there is also located Estonian Broadcasting Museum (Eesti Ringhäälingumuuseum). The museum has been founded in 1990 to collect, preserve and exhibit items connected to Estonian broadcasting history.
